About
Ampersand Panels for Printing Serigraphs
Ampersand
Art Supply manufactures archival painting panels for artists around the
world, and publishers in particular have found that Claybord and Gessobord
are ideal rigid surfaces for the printing of serigraphs. The finished panels
are archival and durable, ensuring that an artwork will withstand the test
of time. In 1996, Triad Art Group Publishing printed its
first edition of Royo’s “Mirame” on Ampersand’s
Claybord panels. Since then, other publishers including The Chase
Group, Axelle Fine Arts, Newbury Fine Arts, The Nan Miller Gallery,
and others have adopted these fine art panels for their limited edition
serigraphs. The market response has been exceptional and publishers continue
to print their premium editions on Ampersand’s panels. Since
1996, Triad Art Group Publishing has published over 38 limited editions
on Ampersand’s panels of works by the renowned artist Royo. The
Chase Group has printed a number of editions on these panels, including
“Tower of Babel” by Theodor Seuss Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss)
and “Spectacular Journey” by celebrated U.S. artist Markus
Pierson. The Nan Miller Gallery has continued to pioneer the use of Gessobord
with its limited edition serigraphs of the popular work of Romero Britto.
Adding to this list of distinguished publishers, Axelle Fine Arts has
recently published works of renowned artists Michel Delacroix and André
Bourrié on Ampersand’s Claybord and Gessobord panels. According
to Anthony Parrella of Newbury Fine Arts, “Jim Buckels and I both
believe that Ampersand’s Claybord is the finest surface to print
a premium quality serigraph.” |

Panels Provide a Clear Advantage
The unique coating on the Ampersand panel gives a luminosity and finish
to a print unlike any other serigraph on canvas or paper. Gallery owner
Jeff Kamka of Galleria di Sorrento says his customer response for the
serigraphs on panels has been overwhelming. As a result, he only carries
the Royo serigraphs on panel. These deluxe editions are easy to frame
without glass and they consistently garner a 50% price premium!

NEE, P & C ART GALLERIES
“From the perspective of a gallery, serigraph prints on Claybord
panels have several benefits over canvas. Besides the immediate advantage
of not having to be stretched for framing, we’ve found that the
panels are also more durable as they are not subject to the buckling and
warping canvas sometimes experiences due to varying temperature conditions
or handling.”
MASTER PRINTERS
APPLAUD THE BENEFITS OF PANELS
The rigid, perfectly smooth, porcelain finish of the Claybord and Gessobord
panels allows for perfect registration on every print. Herta Headrick,
owner of award-winning Kolibri Art Studios, praises the remarkable ease
of printing on these quality panels. The Ampersand panels do not have
to be mounted, stretched, or cut to prepare for printing. Unlike canvas
and paper, the panels are not susceptible to varying climatic changes.
According to Chameleon Editions, this stability produces highly consistent
serigraph prints every time.
STANTON ROSENBERG,
CHAMELEON EDITIONS, INC.
“Claybord is unique among the different substrates we’ve
used for fine art silkscreen over the past 15 years. The surface is uniform
and completely receptive to the ink we use, which always lays on the Claybord
in a perfect fashion. Registration is always spot on and the fact that
the panel is non-absorbent allows us to plan our printing more carefully,
avoiding surprises, and achieving our artistic goals as well as those
of our customers.
HERTA HEADRICK,
KOLIBRI ART STUDIOS
“It’s truly a pleasure printing with the Ampersand panels.
Our results are always first class! The Claybord panel perfectly lends
itself as a receiving layer for most inks, textures, special effects,
varnishes and coatings. Most of the publishers that we print for that
offer their artist’s work on Claybord feature the Claybord as the
deluxe portion of their over all edition and sell it for a 50% premium
over the prints on paper. Many of the international printing awards received
by Kolibri have been for serigraphs on Ampersand’s panels!”
