Introduction to Ampersand Gessobord

Have you tried Ampersand’s Gessobord? It’s the perfect wood painting panel for oils and acrylics, and here’s why: Gessobord starts with Ampersand’s premium, warp-resistant Hardbord, sealed with our Archiva-Seal™ to ensure your paintings won’t yellow over time. Then we apply our professional-grade artist’s acrylic gesso. Forget about the time-consuming process of applying and sanding several applications of gesso; the Gessobord wood canvas panel is ready to use, no preparation necessary, so you can take it right out of the package and start painting!

Gessobord’s acrylic gesso coating has just the right level of absorbency, allowing you to blend oil colors and maintain their slower drying time.

The slight, consistent texture of the surface allows brush control for any technique, from impasto and palette knife work to fine details and glazing techniques.

One of the best features of painting on Gessobord’s unique surface is that you are not going to have a troublesome canvas texture behind your brush strokes. The minimal texture means that Gessobord has that perfect grab of your brush to control pigment applications and is excellent for portrait work.

You can also customize the surface texture! You can sand Gessobord to make the surface smoother or apply a coat or two of your favorite acrylic gesso or oil ground to add texture. In addition to oil and acrylic painting, you can also use Gessobord for collage, mixed media, or even for mounting fabric or prints.

Ampersand’s Gessobord is available in a flat, 1/8" flat format which is perfect for painting en plein air or cradled in ¾", 1.5", or 2" depths. Standard sizes of Gessobord are available, ranging from 4x4 up to 48x72.
